Cambieure

Cambieure is a circulade village.

In the Languedoc-Roussillon region of the south of France, a circulade is a traditional village that has been built in (concentric) circles, whereas a Bastide has a square formation.

The centre is empty, more often than not, rather than having a church or other important building. Circulade plans were identified as a unique urbanistic phenomenon about 1992, are medieval in origin, dating from the eleventh and twelfth centuries which is two centuries earlier than the planned bastides of the region.

Krzysztof Pawlowski, a Polish architect working for the UNESCO patrimony section, first studied this phenomenon. He identified more than fifty circular cities and villages of Languedoc-Roussillon, the birthplace of this concept at the rebirth of European town planning.

Cambieure has a romanesque church. The 'Place des platanes' hosts the annual village fête - an evening of feasting and entertainment for villagers and their friends.

There are tennis courts, pétanque courts, walking tracks, cycling routes, etc all within the village or close by.
